PERCH REPORTS

Last four trips have been perch fishing since the walleyes continue to be illusive and cold fronts with high winds every week. Perch fishing has been very good with limits on our last four trips. We concentrated on perch south of Kelly's, south west corner of Kelly's and south of Gull Shoal. Best fishing was usually later in the day after 2:00 pm. Total for each day were 150, 211, 120 and Sunday I fished with my fist mate to get some perch for this winter, 60 in about 2 1/2 hours. Walleyes were stacked south of Gull last Friday and Saturday but were totally gone on Sunday morning and we could not locate them after searching for several hours. Perch trip scheduled for tomorrow, bringing the boat back home Thursday  and may fish west of Huron River next week. After that the boat goes to Craft Marine in Sandusky for the winter,  really appreciate the customer service from Craft Marine. Will keep everyone apprised of the walleye fishing that first week in November.

CABELA'S MASTERS WALLEYE CIRCUIT

The walleye bite continues to be slow in the Western Basin as demonstrated in last weekend MWC tournament held out of the Huron Boat Basin. I attended the weigh in on the first day of the tournament and the leader managed 26.14 lbs for a five fish total. It was a tough day for the entire field and it sounded like most of the field were pulling night crawler harnesses. The second day was slightly better with the winning team having a 32.07 lbs for five fish. Congratulations to Mark Brumbaugh and Michael Robertson who were in seventh place after the first day but with their 32.07 lbs the second day were winners after the two day event with a ten fish total of 50.0 lbs. Great job guys.

The majority of the charter captains are still fishing for perch but that should change any day. The weather buoy, old C can and the Northwest corner gull shoal have been producing some nice perch. Some scattered walleyes are being caught from Sawmill to Lorain running reef runners with everyone waiting for the large walleye schools to return to the Western Basin. The Huron Walleye Challenge will be held this coming Saturday and I believe the fishing will be much improved. There is a total of 106 boats fishing this tournament. Good luck to all of the participants. See you on the water!

LATEST WALLEYE REPORT AND GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Launched the Budman Saturday and after a trial run yesterday we are ready for the 2014 fishing season. The only issue Sunday on the trial run my first mate almost fell out of the boat while dropping in the first planar board.
  • The WBSA or LEWT tournament was held last Saturday and congratulations to  Jason Pelz and Matt Clifton for first place with a five fish total of 46.44 lbs and the biggest fish at 13.17lbs. great job. Tourney guys reported all the pre-fish were still with eggs and at the weigh in over 50 per cent were spawned out. Water temperatures were running around 46 degees, interesting information.
  • Well still looking for a new boss to tell my wife and I how to run the house below is a possible candidate he's only three weeks old so we still have another 5 weeks to see how he turns out. We definitely need a new puppy to fill the void left from the loss of our 13 year old lab. Can't wait . Need to look to the future and not think about the past. Need to concentrate on filling the fish box with Lake Erie walleye and healing our hearts.  See you on the water!!!!
