CAPTAINS REPORT WALLEYE/PERCH LIMITS 2013

The bag limit proposal for walleye and perch for 2013 will remain the same. The Great Lakes Fishery Commission held its annual meeting in Niagara Falls this past week. The Lake Erie Committee estimates the lake's population of Age 2+to be 17.736 millions fish. Ohio's quota will be 1.715 million walleye which translates to 6 fish May - FEB. and 4 from Mar - April. The perch limit is still under determination and will be determined later this year but it is believed that it to will remain at 30 fish/person/day.

The LEWT tournament was held today and from what I have heard it was a very productive day with one captain with 47 lbs for five fish. I will update the tournament results as soon as they are available. The jig bite is still reported as slow on the reef complex but will improve as the water temperature increases. I will be launching this coming week to try some of the hand painted Husky Jerks I bought today. See you on the water! Its Hawg time .........just sayin.

CAPTAINS REPORT 3/26

According to OGF it sounds like a lot of people will be making the first trip out on the reef complex this weekend. Most will try their luck jig fishing first and switch to trolling for hawgs later in the day. Trolling in that transition water between muddy and clear water should be the best area to target large fish. Hope you have the opportunity to fish this weekend but if not maybe this will get the adrenalin going. See you on the water!

TRU-TRIP DIVE CURVES

Just obtained some new dive curves from Big Fish Tuff Tackle. Here are the dive curves for both the 30 and 40 Tru-Trip. As I mentioned before I store these on my iPhone and will soon have these along with reef runner and husky jerks posted on my website as a fishing aid for easy access. I did hear of fish being caught near F can before this recent snow storm and colder weather. Reef runner and Husky Jerks produced the fish. See you on the water if this weather ever breaks!!!!!

CAPTAIN'S REPORT 3/15

Some fishing on the reef complex but fishing was slow. Water temperature is 32.7 degrees and as it warms the fishing will get better. According to a report on OGF no fish on the reefs yet but good marks just off the reefs in 20 feet of water. Make sure if you go out on the water you have all your safety equipment on board. There willl be few boats out and a better chance to be inspected by the USCG. This year I would like some of my followers to send me fishing reports under the comment section on my blog. You don't have to give up your favorite spot but share what worked such as type of bait, colors and speeds. Looks more like my launch date will be the 29 of March. See you on the water.

TRU-TRIP 40 DIVER DIVE CURVE

I have had quite a few followers ask information on dive curves specifically on Tru-Trip divers. I made a copy of the curve for 40 divers and placed it on my iPhone. I use it all the time as a reference while fishing. Anyway here is a copy that might be useful to you too. You can also obtain the same for 40 and 50 divers on www.BigFish TuffTackle.com website. See you on the water soon!

SOUTH SHORE FISHING SEMINAR 3/11

Saturday I attend the fishing seminar with Dan Heyne, owner and operator of Big Fish Tuff Tackle where he introduced his new bare naked 40 Tru-Trip. At the end of the day this diver was by far the best seller followed with the smoke color.  The seminar was very informative with discussions on Garmin electronics, various fishing methods and equipment, trolling large and small planar boards and equipment displays by Amish Outfitters and Cisco Fishing Systems. Thanks to everyone at South Shore especially Steve Carlson who organized the seminar and to Rick Messenburg owner of Mussenburg Creative Catering who catered the excellent food and snacks. The Western Basin is still not fishable but warm weather this week might change everything. See you on the water.
